Bostons&Toybulldogs

All pups are sold on this understanding.
A simple guarantee is attached to each pup unless a pup is accepted as is with a known or suspected  fault.
We will NOT be
responsible for any vet bills you incur, we do not guarantee against faults common to the breed like cherry eye, we will replace a pup who has a  genetic or congenital fault so severe that the dogs quality of life is bad and which cannot be treated.

We will always take a dog back if you have to Rehome it, the onus is on you to arrange transport, this is best done to coincide with one of my trips to Brisbane.

ALL holds are accepted only on a non return agreement unless we cannot supply either the pup of your choice or similar within a year.

Some of our breeding dogs are below in the slide show.

Tease, the ideal girl, kind eyed, loyal and stable temperament, sensible, fit, beautiful and has beautiful pups, great mother, clear of the juvenile cataract gene, as most of our dogs are, she is all Boston Terrier, and all a Boston Terrier should be.
I just don't want to part with her, although her breeding time is nearly up, she will retire within a year or two, several of her pups will carry on in her place, our lines go back for many years, only the most fault free dogs being kept from each generation.

Any bitch who can't free whelp is spayed, any line of dogs  throwing too many serious faults is culled from  our  breeding program.

We still do get faulty dogs of course, just a lot less often, and very, very  few ever suffer serious BOAS symptoms. When attempting to rid your lines of faults set in over too many years of closed studbooks you can only pick your battles, we have addressed the most serious things first, and see far fewer serious faults now than is found in the general population, the next aim will be to work on eliminating the less serious ones

Below are just a few DNA test results, so you can be confident that we do do them, I have dozens going back many years, I do not intend to scan and upload them all, and you do need to realise that DNA tests as handy as they are to breeders do not, and will not eradicate faults unless extremes, where those extremes are linked to particular genes, are bred away from, this can mean a different looking dog, and many will simply not do it, for those of us who will, to use all tools, DNA, modify looks/traits, and even add other blood, it is a great tool.

We have just reached a point in our program where it is now worth it to start testing a cross section of our breeders to check how we are going regarding the DVL2 gene which has been fixed ( set ) in Boston Terriers by breeding religiously for traits now known to be linked to it, short muzzles, backs and those fixed, screw tails.

Some breeders didn't realise this, but most know it and intend to keep doing it because its required by the standard for the breed.

Most of our dogs are clear of another gene, ADAMTS3, it can cause airway problems even in longer muzzled dogs.

Some dogs will inevitably pay the price for the fashionable standard of today, although the DVL2  gene does not cripple many dogs, geneticists  think that this is because other genes which they have not yet connected to it work to prevent this most of the time, when it does decide to kick in it is cruel and crippling, often fatally so.

Google Robinow Syndrome DVL2

We can breed away from this with just a few tweaks to looks and by testing and outcrossing we can either eliminate it altogether, or block it from presenting at its worst in pure breds by being more moderate in what we breed.

Just a few DNA certificates, I've got many more, not every dog is done because if parents are all clear and we bred it and we already know for sure what can or cannot be in there, we do not need to test every dog.

Max our USA imported blue and white Boston Terrier, far from a show standard type, and it is from his lines we got Fungus ( Gussie) who is DVL2 clear, Max does carry two copies of DVL2, but his very build goes away from the type susceptible to the more crippling effects of the DVL2 gene, his X-rays showed an excellent spine, and he has suffered  no ill effects from the gene
